We can now add the name of the Vice President of the US and Democratic Presdential candidate to the list of those supporting the March of July 8 in Rome of the GayPride events. In a long telegram Gore praised the event which will "give the opportunity to reflect upon an ideal which has been a part of the American tradition since its inception: deepening the fundamental right for justice and equality, making more possible the dream of freedom and individual liberty in a good and just society based on equal treatment for all and special privileges for no one." Gore went on, "You are strengthening again the respect for equal treatment by the law and the right of all citizens against all forms of discrimination. I am ready to act together with you to assure all gay and lesbian people the chance for a full participation in the life of their nation." The gay and lesbian communties in Rome are very pleased. They commented, "It is clear that Clinton in the US is well aware of the debt he owes for his victory to American gays and lesbians. He remembers it well. By the same token, Yeltsin, who during the assault on the Russian parliament was hidden in a bunker and saved thanks to the intervention of the gay newspaper "Thema," two years later broke the pledge given in Article 121 to end persecution of gays there." Andrea Giuliani of the Mario Mieli Circle and general manager of the Pride events, explained that that Debora Oackley Malvin, in charge of foreign relations for World Pride, had requested a statement on the events from the White House during a visit there in February. She was assured verbally immediately there would be one, and then in mid-March the letter came from Gore. The leaders of the World Pride organization in Rome now have the letter of support from the vice-president and are grateful to the United States. The idea of this event or a number of events, to be precise, is to promote proper attitudes of acceptance and tolerance in the society, especially towards all the minorities, like homosexuals, and to fight for equal rights for them. During the Conference there's going to be many seminars on the situation of gays and lesbians in many countries in the World, on Gay Games, Culture and human rights, and the seminar in Auschwitz concerning the Orfeo Iris Prize that was granted to acknowledge and commemorate the martyrdom of homosexuals in the concentration camps. Various concerts and recitals, like "Tolerance Now" with the presence of great stars, exhibits with the materials that were published in the "Gejzer" magazine and "Men of Poland" as well as many others, Gay Movie Club that will present the works of Bruce La Bruce, Rosa Von Praunheim and others, and the theatrical review with AIDS Positive Underground Theatre from Amsterdam playing "Prostitution Plays" and Teatrum of the Comical Pantomime with a series of etudes "Puzzle" are only some of the events that we prepared for you. On the "National Days" we will present the achievements and works of the representatives of Byelorussia, Latvia, Poland, Russia and Ukraine, and every night there will be a disco prepared by the artists from those countries. We are also planning the Travesties Cabaret "United Drag Queens of the World". As to the day of Poland, we will present the achievements of Polish Gay artists, as well as literature, movie and other works that contain Lesbian and Gay paths. We are also preparing the review of the amateur achievements called "Gejzer Art Cafe". All those carefully prepared events will take place in the Paradise Club - Warsaw, Wawelska 5; Contemporary Art Centre that is located in the Ujazdowski Castle - Warsaw, Al. Ujazdowskie 6 and in the Parliament of the Republic of Poland - Warsaw, Wiejska 4/6.
